Jessica's  Kayak Slalom Photo Album

 

My goal for this year is to make the U.S. Junior National Team after only paddling slalom for two years.  To reach this objective, my dad planned a rigorous seven-month long training program that started in October 2005. 

With a background in amateur exercise physiology as a hobby for 25 years, my dad developed detailed cardio and weight training cycles during the period of October 2005 through May 2006.  For technical slalom training, he sent me to training camps with Chris Weigand, Cathy Hearn, and Rafal Smolen during the winter and early spring.  I spent time in Texas, Washington D.C., and North Carolina.  The Giddens took time from their busy schedule to coach me once a month on the Kern River.

On May 14, 2006, I made the US Junior National Team!  We’re off to Europe for Junior Worlds in Slovenia.  Whew!

Silvan Poberaj coached me through the entire Trials week -- six practice days and the two race days. It was my very first time to work with Silvan and I hope -- not the last!  He will be with the Junior Team in Europe this summer — I look forward to that!
